Midre Vermilyea   Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players Pitching He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. If you're going in to face Vermilyea, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. He's trying to develop a sinker, but as of yet it's been well below par. In his first taste of the majors, he has kept lefthanders in check but wasn't as effective against righties. Defense & Hitting For a lefty, his move to first base is average at best, and he has a tendency to forget about runners at second, thereby creating opportunities to swipe third. He hurts himself by falling awkwardly off the mound in his follow-through, which allows too many balls to go through the middle for base hits. Vermilyea is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Vermilyea has some pop in his swing.
