Alai Westerfield
Starting Pitcher | Toronto Polar Bears
Pitching He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. When his release point drops below three-quarters, his fastball tends to hang in the strike zone. Westerfield also has a decent changeup. The Toronto Polar Bears hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting Westerfield does an average job of holding runners. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Westerfield is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Westerfield has some pop in his swing.
2025 Outlook I can't say I know what The Toronto Polar Bears were doing locking this guy up to a long term contract. A questionable call at best. If Westerfield doesn't perform, the Toronto Polar Bears won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Toronto Polar Bears are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
