Pitching
Control is his calling card, as he works ahead of hitters without leaving the ball over the middle of the plate. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. McPhail also has a decent changeup. He tends to work slowly when in a jam, which just makes his problems worse by lulling his fielders to sleep. He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.

Defense & Hitting
He has a quick pickoff move, but sometimes concentrates on pitching so much that he forgets about runners. McPhail is nothing special in the field. McPhail is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher.
