Ron Gruber
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Gruber can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. The one thing I must say I don't like about Gruber is how easily rattled he gets. If he makes a mistake to a hitter and the guy winds up on second or third, you can pretty much count on the guy scoring. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting Gruber does an average job of holding runners. Gruber is nothing special in the field. Gruber is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Gruber has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Gruber as a pinch-runner on occasion.
