Valentine Canepa
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching A groundball pitcher, Canepa needs to have sharp command to succeed. He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. He walks too many hitters and throws too many pitches. His composure needs work. When Canepa starts getting hit, he gets mad and loses concentration. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting He has a fair pickoff move and isn't a particularly easy target for basestealers. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. Canepa is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Canepa has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Canepa as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Canepa has below average skills, even for the low minors. One has to expect the Retired or Inactive Players will give him his walking papers before the end of the season. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
