I would like to take this time to honour Moose Jaw Dragons 3B Jerry Alvarado who announced his retirement this off season. Jerry was the last key player remaining from the Moose Jaw Dragons' CBL Championship team, and the first first round draft pick I made in the CBL (14th overall in 2002).
Jerry was a fixture at third for the Dragons. He was called up right after the draft and from opening day of the 2006 season until his retirement after the 2018 season he started every single game the Dragons played at third base for a total of 2107 regular season games in a row. Jerry was very consistent and was a doubles machine hitting 643 in his career to go along with 439 homers and 10 triples giving him a total of 1092 extra base hits in his career. Jerry was also renowned for his fielding and is one of the top fielding third basemen in CBL history. Jerry was an All-Star and a Gold Glove winner. He reached the playoffs nine times in his career winning it all in 2011.
Jerry will be staying on with the Moose Jaw Dragons working with the young players in our minor league system to help them develop into major leaguers as the Dragons rebuilding into contenders continues.
Thank you Jerry.
